Ceramic tiles or wood flooring in the entryway: what’s the right choice for your home?

April 4, 2023

When choosing between ceramic tiles and wooden floors in the entryway, several factors need to be taken into account. The advantage of ceramic tiles is that they are durable and easy to clean, making them an excellent choice if you want something that will last a long time and will be easy to maintain. It is better to choose tiles with a relief surface that prevents slipping and provides additional safety.

On the other hand, wooden floors can create warmth and comfort in the room that ceramic tiles cannot achieve. If you decide to go with wooden floors, choose a solid wood species that is resistant to moisture and wear, but keep in mind that regular maintenance will be necessary. Using waterproof coatings and cleaners can extend the lifespan of the floors.

But what if you have already laid ceramic tiles in your entryway and later decide that you would prefer wooden floors? There are several options for changing the flooring, but each has its advantages and disadvantages.

The simplest way is to lay laminate or click-on wooden floors over the ceramic tiles. This method is easy and inexpensive, but the floor level will be raised, which can cause problems with entry doors or other items that touch the floor. In addition, this method of laying flooring can reduce the insulating properties of the floors.

Another option is to remove the ceramic tiles and lay wooden floors directly on the concrete base. This method is more complex , as it requires the removal of the ceramic covering and the preparation of the base. However, this method allows you to get a perfectly flat floor surface that will not affect other elements in your entryway.

Regardless of the type of flooring you choose, always consider your wants and needs and choose something that will serve you well and create satisfaction with every entry to your home.
