Years ago, I spent some time working at an architectural office in Trieste. Back then, the tram regularly ran into the city, gradually becoming monotonous to me due to its slowness. However, observing the city itself, brimming with diversity, was far from boring.
At that time, I was taken aback by the fact that despite Italy and Trieste not being far from Slovenia, they seemed culturally distinct. The most fitting word would be “different.” Lifestyle, values, ways of thinking… It’s not just that the coffee there tastes different; the city exudes a unique charm stamped with its history and architectural style, values, and way of life. But it is true that it lacks the green spaces that would give the city freshness and better living conditions.
Throughout history, Trieste has been a part of various nations and influences, including Italian, Austro-Hungarian, and Slovenian. There, one can observe classical facades and impressive architectural elements from neoclassicism, Secessionist decorative elements, hints of historicism, and of course, functionalism and modern architecture. While personally, my favorite style is modern, I am also fond of the touch of historical elegance and Secessionist masterpieces that evoke feelings of grandeur, beauty, admiration, harmony, dignity, and creativity.
Yes, Trieste conceals many treasures. Marvelous city apartments, elegant interiors, charming cafés, mysterious staircases, narrow streets redolent of the past, magnificent facades, beautiful terraces, even green roofs, and older city blocks or, or for example, the Bagno Lanterna beach from the time of the Habsburg monarchy, still divided into male and female section.
Embark on a journey to Trieste and share your experiences as well! And if you wish to enrich your spaces with the spirit of beauty, harmony, dignity, and creativity, you are welcome to our interior design studio.
